Part 2 - Roma to Trento

I arrived on Monday 11 January, and it took awhile to get retrieve my luggage and pass customs in Roma.

On the bus into Stazione Termini I met Joanne, Canadian chef who had been travelling for more than a year. We had a pleasant chat over coffee and bread rolls, before she left for Firenze.

I must be in Italy
I rang Museo Nazionale Preistorico Etnografico "Luigi Pigorini"and spoke to Dottoressa Alexandra Antinori who said I would be welcome from the 1st of February.

I then caught the 14:10 pm train to Trento and arrived until at 8:30 pm bloody exhausted. Len wasn't there, too far away to drive so I'll stay here tonight at the Hotel Accademia I hope.

There was no room and it was also expensive so I stayed at hotel Cavalino Bianca which wasn't too bad. I went for a walk before bed - On first impressions, I thought Trento was a really nice place.

The next day, Tuesday 12 January, I woke up early to catch the 8 am bus to Campo Carlo Magno to meet my relatives but missed it by minutes as the bus station was further than I estimated, so I decided to walk around Trento.

I bought breakfast in the stand-up section of the Motta cafe and felt that the whole idea of standing up for breakfast was barbaric. Everyone seems to accept it but it seemed de-humanising, although at the same time quite social.

I had the rolls of film I'd taken so far processed locally and visited the Trento Museum (Museo Tridentino di Scienze Naturali di Trento).

Interior of the museum
The museum was really interesting and well laid out, with excellent information about the Trento region and its archaeological and natural history.

Using the letter of introduction from Lissant Bolton at the Australian Museum I managed to talk to the director, Dottore Gino Tomasi who was very friendly. Sadly he now has passed away.

Unfortunately the quick release foot for the tripod disappeared in transit which made it useless as I could not attach a camera to it.

Italian Alps from the bus
At 12:50, after lunch of cottaletta and radiccio (veal cutlets and salad) at the Trattoria UAI Volt, I finally caught a bus north to Campo Carlo Magno.
